Forest School - Fire Safety

Igniting Curiosity: A Safe Approach to Fire-Making
At Nurtured Nest, Forest School sessions are part of our preschool years core curriculum. We are dedicated to providing children with enriching and engaging outdoor experiences. Recently, our focus was on the fascinating world of fire-making—a skill that combines safety, practical knowledge, and the excitement of hands-on learning.

Learning the Art of Fire-Making
Our adventure began with teaching the children essential fire safety and the process of gathering wood and kindling. They learned to create a fire pit with care and attention, understanding the importance of preparation and safety in outdoor settings.

Using a fire striker, the children discovered the delicate art of igniting a fire. This process involved not just physical skills, but also patience and problem-solving. Under close supervision, they practiced starting and maintaining the fire, gaining confidence and a sense of achievement as they watched the flames come to life.

A Taste of Success: Toasting Marshmallows and Corn
The culmination of their efforts was a delightful experience—sitting around the fire and toasting marshmallows and corn. This moment of sharing and enjoyment was not only a reward for their hard work but also a chance to appreciate the simple pleasures of outdoor living.

Integrating Fire Safety into Our Curriculums
Fire safety is a crucial component of our Forest School curriculum. By introducing fire-making in a controlled and supervised environment, we teach children important safety practices while fostering their sense of adventure and responsibility. Through these activities, children learn about the natural world, develop practical skills, and build a strong connection with their environment.

Join Us in the Journey
We invite families and educators to join us in celebrating the joys of outdoor learning and the importance of safety in every adventure. Together, we can continue to explore, discover, and grow in the beautiful natural world around us.
